The role of agrotechnical factors in maize (Zea mays L.) production
The impact of the main agrotechnical elements (fertilisation, crop rotation, irrigation, plant number) on maize yield was observed on chernozem soil in the Hajdúság region in 1983. There were various crop years during the examined 10-year-period (2004-2013). ANOVA and the division of variance components were used to analyse the impact of agrotechnical factors. The results of the long-term experiments showed that the yields of each crop rotation system differed from each other (monoculture: 5.99–6.75 t ha-1, biculture: 9.16–10.21 t ha-1, triculture: 9.09–9.96 t ha-1). The difference between the obtained yield and the maximum yield of maize decreased to minimum by using the optimal agrotechnical solutions in various crop rotation systems (monoculture: 10.39–11.99 t ha-1, biculture: 11.79–13.01 t ha-1, triculture 11.54–12.74 t ha-1, averaged over the examined years). Our research results showed that the impact of each agrotechnical element on maize yield was greatly affected by crop year and crop rotation. Based on our examinations, the various agrotechnical elements had the following impact on maize yield: fertilisation: 39%, crop rotation: 28%, irrigation: 14%, plant density: 7%.
